Southern Skye is Derby bound - 22 Oct 2009

Following his impressive win in yesterdays Geelong Classic, the Paul Perry trained Southern Skye is now headed for the VRC Derby on Saturday week.  It will be the first time the highly successful Newcastle trainer will have a Victoria Derby runner. Perry's son Paul, described Southern Son as a "duffer in the wet", so no doubt connections will be hoping the fickle Victorian weather doesn't produce too much precipitation in the lead up.

Solo Flyer headed for Doncaster showdown - 28 Mar 2009

Following his win in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes at the weekend, Solo Flyer has secured his position Doncaster, and will take on favourtie All Silent, both horses flying the flag shuttle stallion Belong To Me who stood at Widden Stud for several years.

Solo Flyer, was bred by another long time Horsepower client, Gerry Harvey's Baramul Stud and was sold for $180,000 at the 2006 Magic Millions on the Gold Coast, to Anthony Cummings.

Grand Prix win for Jono - 27 Mar 2009

Long time Horsepower user Jono Berry took out the Grand Prix at Camden Show on Friday, riding Jamie Winnings imported stallion Yandoo Quincey.  Following impressive performances at several shows in recent months, the win was a great boost for this relatively new combination heading into the Royal Easter show.

Horsepower Clients success at Inglis Classic Sale - 11 Feb 2009

Kitchwin Hills Stud topped the Inglis Classic Sale with a General Nediym half sister to 2009 Magic Millions winner Phelan Ready, selling for $220,000 to Nathan Tinklers Patinak Farm.

Tim and Celie Nolan of Murrulla Stud also had a successful sale, and were the proud winners of the best presented draft.

Magic Millions winner Phelan Ready - Raised on Horsepower, raced on Horsepower - 11 Jan 2009

Winner of the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions 2yo Classic, Phelan Ready displayed plenty of "Horsepower" to take out the race. it was hardly surprising, given the horse was born and raised at Kitchwin Hills before being purchased by McLachlan Place Racing Stables, he was both raised and raced on Horsepower feeds and supplements.

Alan Chappell's big fortnight - 06 Jan 2009

For Armidale breeder Alan Chappell, the last fortnight has been an impressive one. Alan's picturesque, boutique stud at Armidale has produced 7 winners and 2 second placegetters. All eyes are now on the star of the group, Racing Pegasus in Saturday's Magic Millions 2yo Classic. Trained by Barry Baldwin, the horse was sold for $45,000 at last years Magic Millions sales, and is now racing for $1.4 million.

Widden finishes 2008 on a winning roll - 24 Dec 2008

Widden rounded out 2008 with more international sucess. A win in Sha Tin on December 21st for the John Moore trained 4yo Happy Zero was followed up a few days later with the Anabaa (USA) colt Le Drakkar winning the Group One Bloodstock SA Cape Guineas in South Africa.

Yarraman Park rolls on - 22 Dec 2008

Arthur and Harry Mitchell had plenty to celebrate this Christmas with the Magic Albert colt Something Anything winning the Group 2 Villiers Stakes. The thrilling finish, saw comeback jockey Craig Munce claim the win in the narrowest of margins.

No doubt the Mitchell boys will be hoping that Yarraman's winning streak can continue into the New Year with Carlton Forward in the Magic Millions 2yo race.

Winning Wins World Cup - 12 Nov 2008

21yo Jamie Winning from Ebeneezer, competing in just her fifth World Cup qualifier, defeated her more experienced rivals to take out the presitigous event in Shepparton at the weekend. With 40mm of rain falling prior to the competition, conditions were testing for both horse and rider, with course designer David Sheppard being commended for his excellent work in designing a tough but fair course.

All Silent rounds out a big week for Grahame Begg - 08 Nov 2008

3 starts for 3 wins is an impressive result at any time of year - but when those 3 starts are during Melbourne's Spring Racing Carnival, it really is a massive achievement.

Grahame Begg's blockbusting week began on Derby Day, when All Silent won the AAMI Stakes, then on Oaks Day, Palacio De Cristal saluted, giving the stables 2 from 2.  All Silent then backed up again, taking the feature race on Emirates Stakes Day, and rounding out a magical week for Team Begg.

Interestingly, not only does All Silent race of Horsepower products (Sweetfeed No.4) - but as the latest member of the Group One Winners from Widden Stud, he was also raised on Horsepower.

Another Winner for Whites - 08 Nov 2008

Well known racing identities Geoff and Beryl White produced yet another city winner with Readyor saluting in the Testa Rossa Handicap at Randwick on Saturday. The Jack Denham trained More Than Ready filly was extremely impressive in her win, and looks set for a big future. In keeping with tradition, the filly has a seven letter name, like so many other of the winners produced by the Whites, such as Marscay, Filante, Triscay and Eremein.

Samantha Miss win the VRC Crown Oaks - 06 Nov 2008

Samantha Miss confirmed her superstar status with an emphatic win in the VRC Crown Oaks. The Kris Lees trained filly blitzed her rivals, and brought some welcome relief to punters as one of the very few short-priced favourites to win at Flemington over the Cup carnival.

Horsepower fuelled horses dominate at Australian Showjumping Championships - 12 Oct 2008

The Australian Showjumping Championships staged in Canberra over the weekend proved to be very successful for several Horsepower fed horses.

Wagga junior, Tom McDermott took out the Australian Junior Championship on Merriwa; Emily Blinkworth blitzed the field to take the Australian Young Rider Title on C.P Romantic Dream (Emily was also the runner-up on CP Rolex) and in the Senior title, Jamie Winning was the runner-up on Yandoo Vangelo. It was a great effort by Jamie, who at just 21 years of age, is still eligible for Young Rider events.

Horsepower raised horses star on the track - 12 Oct 2008

Two big wins for Horsepower raised horses at Caulfield on Saturday.

Willander (Exceed & Excel - Scandinavia) affirmed his class with a win in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes. The typey chestnut colt was born and raised on Eliza Park, before being sold at the 2007 Inglis Easter Sale for $625,000 to Darley Stud.

But the big win of the day, was that of Whobegotyou (Street Cry - Temple of Peace) in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas. Foaled and raised at Widden Stud for his breeder, David O'Keeffe, the geldings win in the classic race has been described as the best in 30 years.

Rob Hodgeman's $75,000 pay day - 06 Oct 2008

Rob Hodgeman took home the $75,000 prize cheque by winning the NCHA Open Futurity with the Hodgeman and McGregor nomination EB's Mia Cdee. Staged in the brand new Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) in Tamworth, Rob was thrilled to take out the title in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd.

Samantha Miss takes the Princess Series - 04 Oct 2008

With an emphatic win in the Group 1 Flight Stakes, Samantha Miss has taken out the Princess Series, and now seems destined to meet Weekend Hussler in the Cox Plate. The 3yo filly, trained by Kris Lees has clearly shown herself to be the dominate horse of her class, with some pundinents now starting to make comparisons with the great Sunline.

Another Randwick mile win for Mentality - 27 Sep 2008

The John Hawkes trained Mentality took out the first Group 1 of the season in Sydney with a win in the weight for age George Main Stakes at Randwick. It was a gutsy win by the strongly built chestnut, however, Hawkes was quoted as saying; "He pulled up well from the George Main."

It would seem the Epsom Handicap at Randwick will be the next test for Mentality.

Another Cup win for Mr Gold Fire and Jimmy Jarvis - 26 Sep 2008

Coffs Harbour trainer Jimmy Jarvis has continued his extraordinary run of success with Mr Gold Fire, by taking out the $60,000 Lismore Cup. The 7yo gelding has two Taree Cups, a Ballina Cup and a Coffs Harbour Cup already to his credit, and has proved to be a bargin buy for Jarvis, who purchased the horse for $4000 at the Tasmanian yearling sales.

Rosehill winners - 21 Sep 2008

The Kris Lees trained Samantha Miss continued her outstanding form to convincingly win the Group 2 Tea House Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday. Watch the race here on youtube

According to newspaper reports, Lees has confirmed the $3 million Cox Plate is certainly in his plans for the superstar filly, having already paid up the second acceptance.

Another Horsepower-fed winner was produced in the very next race at Rosehill when Fiumicino from the Hawkes stable, took out the Group 2 Hill Stakes. While the horses program over the coming weeks is still to be confirmed, Michael Hawkes reportedly did comment that the long term aim was the first Tuesday in November.

Earlier in the day, long time Horsepower clients Yarraman Park stud produced another city-winner when Lorne Dancer won the first race at Rosehill.  Lorne Dancer was sold by the Yarraman Park at the 2006 Inglis Classic sales.

Australia's richest campdrafting event, at the privately owned, state of the art , purpose built facility, attracts the nations best, and this year was no exception. Riding "Abigail", Buttsworth defeatd a strong field, including Ben Hall and Kenny Boulton.
